Presse / Kritik
Decanter: 95/100 Punkte
"Paul and Vincent Avril, a father and son team, have established themselves as one of the finest producers of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Despite being predominantly Grenache, it is reminiscent of an elegant northern Rhône Syrah with the texture of a Pinot. With a medium bodied intensity, it has a beautiful red fruit expression with some savoury notes. Harmony, finesse and elegance are probably the three words that best describe this beauty. One for the cellar. Drink 2017-2030."
Matt Walls: 95/100 Punkte (TOP 50 Chateauneuf-du-Pape)
"Pale in colour. An elegant Burgundian style, with exceptionally fine tannic mouthfeel. Floral and spicy with piercing acids and very pretty fruit expression. Not the longest or most powerful Clos des Papes, but a wine of great finesse and balance. 2017-2028"
Wine Cellar Insider: 94/100 Punkte
"Elegance, purity of fruit, freshness and energy are at a very level for this semi difficult vintage. The wine serves up ripe, sweet, pure red fruits and spicy berries in suave, polished, sexy finish."
Wine Advocate: 92-94/100 Punkte (Fassprobe)
"As I commented in my recent retrospective article, Clos des Papes is one of the reference point estates for traditional, age-worthy Chateaunef-du-Pape. From yields in range of 15 hl/ha, the 2014 Chateauneuf-du-Pape is reminiscent of the 2008 and reveals a healthy ruby color to go with the classic kirsch, dried flowers and spice notes that I always find in Avil's wines. Showing an almost Pinot Noir-like texture, with medium to full-bodied richness, sweet tannin and outstanding length, it will certainly be one of the more approachable, forward wines from this estate and it should be a low to mid-nineties scoring effort."
Wine Advocate: 93/100 Punkte (10/2016)
"This 2014 Chateauneuf du Pape is certainly one of the wines of the vintage. And while it possesses terrific notes of peppery herbs, Provencal spice, kirsch and darker berry fruits, it's on the palate where this beauty shines! Medium to full-bodied, incredibly balanced, seamless and pure, with beautiful fruit, it has present tannin, terrific mid-palate depth and a great finish. It won't be the longest lifed wine from the estate, but it's beautiful and will certainly drink well for a decade."
J. Livingstone-Learmonth: 4,5 / 6 Sterne
"Serene red robe. Has a curvy, red-fruited bouquet which is really pleasing – it offers strawberry, raspberry on roller skates, is very juvenile, has a lovely plumpness. There are fresh, early summer breezes on the nose, giving an image of rustling leaves. There is ace finesse on the palate, with neat tannins, powder grain and elegant they are. There are pockets of white pepper, and it ends on a note of cloves, very much the signature of a cool vintage. This is highly tasty, a real red fruit fest – it’s wonderful wine, what pleasure it gives. It summons symphonic thoughts. Bottled May 2016. (“It is very Burgundian,” Vincent Avril.)"
Vinous: 93-95/100 Punkte
"Deep ruby. Highly perfumed scents of candied dark berries, cola and lavender oil develop a suave, smoky Indian spice nuance. Fleshy, expansive red and dark berry and floral pastille flavors display an impressive blend of richness and energy, picking up a mineral flourish with air. Finishes juicy, sweet and very long, displaying lingering, spice-tinged dark fruit flavors and slow-building tannins."

Zitat J. Livingstone-Learmonth: "Gold standard estate, joy to taste only one red, one white, so good blending is crucial. The yields are always very low – not much more than 20 hl/ha, which serves to concentrate the red wine, and there is an above average emphasis on the Mourvèdre, all planted in clay soils. The blend is now usually 55% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah, 5% various including white grapes, having been 65% Grenache, 20% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah, 5% various including white grapes into the early 2010s. The 2014 red was utterly charming, a real en finesse ****(*) beauty, while the 2015 is logically a bolder, more demanding ***** wine, requiring patience. The ***** 2016 red is deep and long, a vintage that will age extremely well. The whites drink well in their first couple of years, then back off, close down, and emerge as more complex, stimulating wines around seven years' old; they live well and deserve a top table accompaniment."
Leider wahnsinnig gut
Etwas ganz Besonderes!
