"With 95% of the grapes being Grenache sourced primarily from old vines on sandy soils, this is an irresistibly fleshy yet pure-fruited sip packed with raspberry and boysenberry goodness. It's a thrilling, mouthdrenching red shaded by whispers of earth, sweet spice and bramble. Tannins are chalky but have surprising grip in youth. A powerful wine that needs a bit of time to meld but should approach peak by 2023 and age beautifully."

"Nearly all Grenache - the grapes come from two old-vine parcels on sandier soils that have some other varieties mixed in - the 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape le Secret de Sabon flirts with perfection. It's full-bodied and concentrated, yet it remains light on its feet, with ethereally silky tannins. Notes of rose petals and red cherries are crystalline in their purity and clarity, showing great intensity and length on the gently cocoa-tinged finish. This special wine should drink well for a couple of decades."

Das Weingut
Der Name Sabon ist bereits seit dem 16. Jh. mit dem Weinbau an der südlichen Rhone verbunden. Und so zählt Roger Sabon zu den großen Traditionalisten der Region, die die althergebrachten Methoden pflegen, wie z.B. die Verwendung von Fudern (also keine Barriques). Wenn allerdings Verbesserungen möglich sind, ist man stets aufgeschlossen, sinnvolle und behutsame Änderungen vorzunehmen. So werden seit Neuem die Trauben vor der Maische komplett entrappt, d.h. von Stielen und Stengeln befreit, um so weitaus weniger „sperrige“, sondern viel weicherer, seidigere Weine zu erzeugen, ohne dabei an Komplexität und Charakter zu verlieren.
