The Wine Advocate: 94-96 / 100 Punkte
"Easily one of the top wines in the vintage, the superstar 2012 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee De Mon Aieul is 100% Grenache that was aged 90% in concrete tank and 10% in demi-muid. Gorgeous all around, with incredible polish and purity, it offers up copious kirsch, licorice, toasted spice and crushed flowers with a seamless, full-bodied profile. Elegant, remarkably fresh and with fine tannin, it’s hard to resist even now. Nevertheless, it should benefit from a year or three in the cellar and have 15 years of longevity. Drink 2016-2027." The Wine Advocate: 94 / 100 Punkte
"Usseglio's 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvee du Mon Aieul is a beautiful wine that comes mostly from three terroirs: Les Grand Serres (96-year-old vines) in the south, la Crau (78-year-old vines) in the eastern portion of the appellation, and La Guigasse (75-year-old vines), which is roughly in the middle/north central portion of the appellation near Rayas and Pignan. Coming from 100% Grenache and miniscule yields of 22 hectoliters per hectare (which is basically nothing), it offers gorgeous black raspberry, black cherry, herbes de Provence, pepper and Asian spice to go with a medium to full-bodied, silky, refined and elegant style on the palate. It's loaded with character, and while there's no Reserve cuvee in the vintage, this is terrific. Drink bottles through 2027. "
Wine Spectator: 94 / 100 Punkte
"This delivers a juicy, brambly core of dark plum, macerated currant, fig and tobacco flavors, with notes of chestnut, singed alder and bittersweet cocoa. Warm stone and tar details underscore the finish. Shows ample range, energy and character. Best from 2016 through 2030."
St. Tanzer: 92-94 / 100 Punkte
"Opaque ruby. Black raspberry, Indian spices and licorice on the highly perfumed nose, with a sexy floral overtone gaining strength with air. Red and dark berry preserve flavors show excellent depth and sweetness, along with an assertive spiciness. Supple tannins build on a finish that accentuates the floral and berry notes."
The Wine Cellar Insider: 94 / 100 Punkte
"Sweet, peppery goodness, ripe, juicy plum, kirsch and licorice notes stay with you. This 100% old vine Grenache wine is just going to get better and possibly even better from here."
J. Livingstone-Learmonth: 4,5/6 Sterne
"Sound depth in a full robe; this has a fat, open, bulging bouquet that holds engaging black berry fruit which has glisten in its curvy air – it is broad, a proper do, will vary over time. The palate is plump, offers genuine gras and sustains that well. The fruit on the finish is tasty – raspberry with nutty touches as the tannins show through. Oaking and oomph come through there as well. The balance is sound – this will do well over time, will sing a full song. The depth is serene, the length agreeable and it covers the ground with a fluid, silken juice and texture. The degree is a bit high, though. Decant this. From mid-2016. 2026-28"

Rebsorte (vorwiegend): Grenache Noir (=Garnacha)
