In diesem Jahr ist der Casanuova zum ersten Mal ein reinsortiger Sangiovese aus einer Einzellage namens Vigna Doghessa.
Weiches Rubinrot, große Intensität von Kirsche, Veilchen und Anklängen von mediterranen Gewürzen und Lakritze. Am Gaumen elegant, fruchtiger Charakter mit abgerundeten Tanninen und langanhaltendem Abgang, passt bestens zu Variationen von Pasta und Fleischgerichten, etwa bei 16° C servieren.
Die Trauben für den Casanuova di Nittardi wachsen in 450 m Höhe auf der nach Süden geneigten Flanke einer Hügelkette, vor rauhen Winden durch die umliegenden Eichenwälder geschützt, im Zentrum des für den Chianti Classico ausgewiesenen Gebietes.

Die 32. Version der traditionellen Nittardi-Künstleretiketten stammt von Karl Otto Götz.

J. Robinson: "100% Sangiovese from the Doghessa vineyard, which is south facing, at 450 m elevation, with schist soils. This year’s artist label is by Karl Otto Götz (born 1914). 14 months in used 500-litre French oak.
Deep ruby with a soft rim. More savoury and meaty than the Belcanto but still rich in pure dark fruit and a hint of red-fruit fragrance to lift it from the glass. This is terrific – cool and fresh and so pure-fruited but far from one-dimensional. There’s spice, a light floral note, and still all that dark complexity. Tannins are smooth and dry, present but not dominant, already allowing the fruit to shine and already fluid across the palate. Lovely clarity and depth and length. Super-fresh Chianti Classico with great potential for further complexity, even though it is surprisingly approachable now. Elegant, fresh finish. So nice not to see the oak."

This deep ruby 100% Sangiovese from the south-facing Doghessa vineyard (below) is rich in pure dark fruit and has a hint of red-fruit fragrance to lift it from the glass. It's cool and fresh and although the fruit is very pure, it is far from one-dimensional. There's spice, a light floral note, and still all that dark complexity. The tannins are smooth and dry, present but not dominant, already allowing the fruit to shine and already fluid across the palate. It has lovely clarity, depth and length. Overall it is elegant, and finishes wonderfully fresh thanks to, among things, the schist soils and the elevation (450 m). Even though it has spent 14 months in used 500-litre French oak, the oak is very much in the background, enhancing rather than overpowering all that lovely fruit. The alcohol is in balance at 13.35%."

Das Weingut
Erste Erwähnung findet die zwischen Florenz und Siena gelegene Fattoria Nittardi bereits im 12. Jh. Im 16. Jh. gehörte das ansehnliche Gut sogar zum Besitz von Michelangelo und landete nach wechselvoller Geschichte 1982 in den Händen eines deutschen Galeristen und seiner italienischen Frau. Peter Femfert und Stefania Canali leisteten einen mühevollen Wiederaufbau der Weinberge, 1992 dann auch eines modernen Weinkellers und nicht zuletzt eines engagierten und hochkompetenten Teams, die heute die Grundlage für eine wiederbelebte Weinkultur von Leidenschaft und Respekt sind.
