90 % der Rebfläche von Auguste Clape befinden sich an Steilhängen mit einem granitdurchsetzten Boden. Die Reben selbst sind 60 - 70 Jahre alt (einige sogar 100) und ergeben einen dunklen, robusten Wein. In dem wahrlich großen Stil von Clape verbinden sich üppige Frucht, pfeffrige Noten und starke, reife Tannine zu einem traumhaft strukturierten, extraktreichen Ganzen.
Cassis, viel Blaubeeren, Lakritz und fleischige Noten prägen den Charakter dieser großen Weine aus der kleinen Apellation Cornas.
Zu der Frage, was man idealerweise zu seinen Weinen ißt, lassen wir Monsieur Clape am besten selbst zu Wort kommen : "Wild, Kaninchen und Roquefort." Wir fügen noch Lammkeule hinzu und empfehlen eine Trinktemperatur von 16-18 °C.

"... this is moving well, with notable support from the old vines, whose fruit and content are classy this year. So it is a year indeed for the best terroirs. 2035-38... full red robe... blackberry aroma, the fruit well founded... Has a curvy raspberry fruit aroma which is attractively sweet, shows dried herbs, is slightly reduced. The palate is grilled, meaty, with fine, intense juice present. This has several different factions in play on nose and palate; it is interesting, rather complex, has good Pinot notes..."
