J. Livingstone-Learmonth: 4,5 / 6 Sterne (Leading St. Joseph 2021)
"Dark red; the nose has an aroma of lardon, cooked bacon chunks, bright raspberry, dried herbs. The palate is immediately peppery, direct, crisp toned, develops extra fruit intensity as it goes, ends on herbal crunch tannins. The fruit gets off and goes, then things change, and tannins come in and alter its nature, which is very typical of 2021. The tannins have some tar darkness. Its cool red fruit is a primo card for now, and there are perfume, rose-violet tones towards the finish. It will be stylish, true, has a flavour of macerated red fruits, carries a little Pinote in nature, very good airborne leanings, a floating grace – peppery finesse here, a wine that can gain gras/fat gradually. From 2026 or so. 2041-43."
Decanter: 93 / 100 Punkte
"There’s an appealing touch of oregano to the blackberry fruit. It’s medium-bodied, with good acidity, but not as concentrated as the past few vintages. The tannins are however ripe and fine. Quite a delicate vintage, but good balance and freshness. Harvest started on 24 September, and yields were low this year at 27hl/ha. Drinking window: 2022 - 2030"

Zitat J. Livingstone-Learmonth: " An STGT (Soil to Glass Transfer) domaine par excellence, and fantastic value and consistency - these red Saint-Josephs are top notch Syrahs. The Vieilles Vignes red, occasionally produced in small quantities, is exceptional. The Gonon brothers, true countrymen and taught by their father, make delightful, delicious wines of genuine pedigree. There is a sensible transfer of fruit from mature vineyards to the cellar, where methods are calm and watchful. No new oak in sight. The white is a high-class example of Marsanne, laced with a little Roussanne from a top, south-facing vineyard, Les Oliviers. Both red and white can evolve well over 20 years in the good vintages."
