Decanter: TOP 5 (Best Producers St. Joseph 2018)
J. Livingstone-Learmonth: 5 / 6 Sterne
"2018 NORTHERN WHITES: here we have a triumph. 2018 is a great year for NORTHERN RHÔNE WHITEs made from MARSANNE and ROUSSANNE. They combine deep, rolling gras richness, with lines of clarity and length...
Shiny yellow robe. This has an embracing bouquet, rock n’roll, mixed, jaunty live airs in it, apricot, peach, wax, honey. The palate combines handsome, firm gras with sève of old vines, sap, hence style and a texture that pleases. It has good grip, straightens nicely after a bout of richness. This is very good, right on the money, is very well defined, poised, has salted length. This has class, is Grand Vin. “It was a very hot during the harvest, we picked in the morning, and it has come through as a fresh wine; the East part of Les Oliviers gives freshness from soils and exposure,” Pierre Gonon. 2039-41."

"Brilliant straw-yellow. Fresh, deep-pitched tropical and pit fruit aromas are complemented by suggestions of honey and lemon zest. Ripe and fleshy on the palate, showing sharp definition to the energetic peach, pineapple and tangerine flavors. Finishes silky, focused and very long, displaying repeating peachiness and building mineral and floral qualities. Raised in oak demi-muids, all of them neutral. Drink: 2022-2028."
J. Suckling: 92-93 / 100 Punkte
"Quite rich and buttery with apricots and peaches on offer with a sweet, fleshy and ripe palate that offers good weight and achieves some freshness at the finish. Drink on release."
J. Dunnuck: 94 / 100 Punkte
"Always one of the leading whites in the appellation, the 2017 Les Oliviers Blanc from the Gonon Brothers comes from a single terroir located just outside of Mauves, in the southern part of the appellation. Sporting a vivid gold hue as well as killer notes of quince, buttered citrus, honeyed minerality, and white flowers, it’s full-bodied, has bright acidity, and is perfectly balanced. I’d be happy to put this stunning white in a blind lineup of top Hermitage Blancs. Drink it any time over the coming decade or more. Drink: 2020-2030."
Wine Advocate: 92-95 / 100 Punkte
"The 2018 Saint Joseph les Oliviers Blanc is approximately 80% Marsanne and 20% Roussanne, all barrel fermented and aged almost entirely in used oak (there is one new demi-muid in the mix for the 2018). It's impressively rich and honeyed, with sweet, fruity notes of grilled pineapple balanced by hints of white pepper and brighter citrus notes. Full-bodied, creamy and lush, it remains lively and fresh on the finish—a wonderful paradox that the Gonons seem able to bring out in all of their wines. Drink: 2020-2028."

Zitat J. Livingstone-Learmonth: " An STGT (Soil to Glass Transfer) domaine par excellence, and fantastic value and consistency - these red Saint-Josephs are top notch Syrahs. The Vieilles Vignes red, occasionally produced in small quantities, is exceptional. The Gonon brothers, true countrymen and taught by their father, make delightful, delicious wines of genuine pedigree. There is a sensible transfer of fruit from mature vineyards to the cellar, where methods are calm and watchful. No new oak in sight. The white is a high-class example of Marsanne, laced with a little Roussanne from a top, south-facing vineyard, Les Oliviers. Both red and white can evolve well over 20 years in the good vintages."
