"Attractive pear and honeysuckle aromas. Relatively medium-bodied this year, not as rich as some vintages can be, but good acidity and the alcohol is rich but balanced. Good sense of freshness and minerality. Vivacious, delicious and long. A beautifully balanced vintage from the lieu-dit Les Oliviers in Mauves, which is an excellent terroir for whites."

"Shiny yellow; linden-tilleul, wax, grated hazelnut feature in a quite firm aroma. The palate opens solidly, digs in, is sealed, compact, on brioche-nuttiness, the fruit dried in style, a flavour of apricot. It has a rigour that will serve it well for longevity, is a de la terre wine, very much destined for la table, ends with a firm handshake. This will be ace at eight years – I would set it aside, past its youth, until then, accompanied by truffle dishes, wild mushroom risotto, veal. “It took time to ferment through,” Jean Gonon. There was hail on Les Oliviers on 29 June, which resulted in the loss of some leaves. Harvested 7 Sept 2023. From mid-2026. 2040-42"

The Vieilles Vignes red, occasionally produced in small quantities, is exceptional. The Gonon brothers, true countrymen and taught by their father, make delightful, delicious wines of genuine pedigree. There is a sensible transfer of fruit from mature vineyards to the cellar, where methods are calm and watchful. No new oak in sight. The white is a high-class example of Marsanne, laced with a little Roussanne from a top, south-facing vineyard, Les Oliviers. Both red and white can evolve well over 20 years in the good vintages."
