Presse / Kritik
Decanter: 96 / 100 Punkte (TOP scoring Chateauneuf du Pape 2022)
"A touch less Mourvèdre this year, but not enough to change the profile of the wine, which is fairly classic albeit pretty bombastic in 2022. Raspberry and black cherry, ripe and exuberant. Full but not massive, the alcohol is present, slightly warming the finish. Tannins are a little grainy, so I would give this time to settle before broaching. Succulent and juicy, with a touch of liquorice. Vincent Avril believes the wine could close down quite early on. So drink young, or (even better) wait until 2030. All destemmed, aged in old foudres. Drinking window: 2030-2042"
Revue du Vin de France: 96 / 100 Punkte
"The red is a lesson in mastering power. The wine is undeniably rich, but the fruit remains scintillating, and the substance is velvety and full-bodied. A wine that assumes its richness without the drawbacks."
J. Livingstone-Learmonth: 5 / 6 Sterne
"Dark robe; has a sultry, lingering nose, intensity in it, shows Mourvèdre meatiness and also licorice, spreads a herbal air. The palate holds firm gras with touches of freshness, cedar, its blackcurrant-blackberry fruit well centred. The tannins are tasty, inside. It certainly has foundation, fond, and also rather solid length, is a complete wine with high potential, well set, shows black olives, attractive southern tones towards the finish. It’s a strong ****(*), maybe into *****. “It has tannins, is fresh, very Clos des Papes it is; we lost a bit of Mourvèdre from the hail, which lowered the yield to 18 hl/ha, against 25 hl/ha in 2023 and 2020; the blend adjusted, too – 65% Grenache, 25% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah, down 5% on Mourvèdre and 3% on Syrah,” Vincent Avril. From 2028. 2050-53"
Wine Advocate: 97 / 100 Punkte
"Despite a hailstorm that destroyed approximately one-third of the crop this year, Paul-Vincent Avril managed to produce a wine with the same grape proportions as in previous years, thanks to his vineyard's diverse and fragmented nature. So, the 2022 Chateauneuf du Pape from Clos des Papes reveals a delicate, aromatic bouquet of peony, gooseberry, lilac, flowers and cherries mingled with delicate notes of fennel and menthol. Medium to full-bodied, sappy and layered, it's perfectly textured with velvety, delicate tannins enhanced by bright acids and a long, ethereal finish. Although the Mourvèdre is slightly dominant at this stage, this wine is unquestionably poised for great aging potential."
J. Dunnuck (2024): 98 / 100 Punkte
"The 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape is showing beautifully, with the sun-kissed style of the vintage yet more depth and density than most in the vintage. Blackberries, Provençal garrigue, spice, and saddle leather all define the aromatics, and it hits the palate with the classic elegance of the estate in its medium to full-bodied, layered, multi-dimensional style. It's one of the wines of the vintage and will have two decades of longevity. Drink: 2024-2044."
J. Dunnuck (2023): 97-99 / 100 Punkte
"The 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape reminds me of the 2007 with its incredible sexiness and seamless, elegant texture. Black cherry liqueur, Provençal herbs, flowers, and licorice are just some of its nuances, and it's full-bodied, with a layered mouthfeel, gorgeous tannins, and a great, great finish. Tasted from multiple foudre, this is unquestionably up with the finest in the vintage, and as I’ve written in the past, it’s almost impossible to have too much Clos des Papes in the cellar!"
J. Suckling: 96 / 100 Punkte
"A silky, textural and harmonious red with notes of dark cherries, fresh blackberries, dried thyme, currants and some mild spices. It's medium-bodied with finely grained tannins. Elegant and graceful, silky and bright. Fresh center palate with plenty of vitality and a caressing texture. Precise and harmonious with a pure expression of fruit at the center and a vibrant, spicy finish. Drink or hold."
Vinous: 96+ / 100 Punkte
"The alluring 2022 Châteauneuf-du-Pape won me over in a heartbeat. Vivid licorice, sage, blueberry, lavender, red and black cherry as well as crushed flowers hail from the glass. Full-bodied and intense, the 2022 packs ample flavor concentration yet always maintains balance through lifting freshness. Polished tannins neatly structure this ambitious 2022 that has the potential to age gracefully for at least two decades. Drink 2032-2050"

Zitat J. Livingstone-Learmonth: "Gold standard estate, joy to taste only one red, one white, so good blending is crucial. The yields are always very low – not much more than 20 hl/ha, which serves to concentrate the red wine, and there is an above average emphasis on the Mourvèdre, all planted in clay soils. The blend is now usually 55% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah, 5% various including white grapes, having been 65% Grenache, 20% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah, 5% various including white grapes into the early 2010s. The 2014 red was utterly charming, a real en finesse ****(*) beauty, while the 2015 is logically a bolder, more demanding ***** wine, requiring patience. The ***** 2016 red is deep and long, a vintage that will age extremely well. The whites drink well in their first couple of years, then back off, close down, and emerge as more complex, stimulating wines around seven years' old; they live well and deserve a top table accompaniment."
