"The 2015 Chateauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée de Mon Aieul is another gorgeous wine from this family estate. As always it comes from three Grenache parcels: La Serres, La Crau and La Guigasse (there are 2 hectares in each parcel). In both 2015 and 2016 this cuvée wasn't destemmed and was brought up mostly in tank, with 15-20% in demi-muids... This beauty offers the fine, finesse-driven style of the vinrage, yet has full-bodied depth and richness as well as sensational notes of framboise, crushed flowers, licorice, Christmas fruitcake and spice. It's in the top handful of wines in the vintage and will benefit from short-term cellaring and have 20+ years of overall longlivety."

"Made from 100% Grenache (from the Grande Serres, la Crau and La Guigasse lieux-dits) and completely destemmed, the 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvee de Mon Aïeul is still aging in a mix of old demi-muids, and it’s a wine Thierry compares to the 2006, which I think is a reasonable comparison.. Offering a big, rich, hedonistic style, with sweet tannin, full-bodied richness and classic ripe Grenache notes of black raspberries, melted licorice and roasted herbs, it’s already incredibly drinkable; I suspect it will remain that way for most of its life."

The palate produces a peppery, engaging run of red berry fruits with a winning freedom in the tannins, a bonny ping of clarity from them. There is glow on the aftertaste. This is genuine Châteauneuf, with a bustling nature, just a little under the class of the leaders this year. From 2019. 2029-32"

Full bodied, deep and fresh, with ripe, elegant tannins and freshness, there is length in the lusty finish, which is a good thing as it allows you more time to enjoy all the peppery, red berry character."

Das Weingut
Ganz bescheiden liegt das Weingut in Chateauneuf du Pape in der Nähe des Schlosses. Ebenso bescheiden gibt sich die Familie Usseglio. Die Weine jedoch präsentieren sich ganz außerordentlich und herausragend. Nicht zuletzt die enorm geringen Erträge, die man sich auferlegt und die traditionelle Weinbereitung machen das Weingut zu einem der Stars der Apellation.
Seinen Ursprung hat das Weingut 1948, als der italienische Einwanderer Francis Usseglio 8 ha Weinland in Chateauneuf erwarb und ein Jahr später seinen ersten Wein abfüllte. Sein Sohn Pierre vergrößerte das Gut, das heute ca. 24 ha umfasst und von dessen Söhnen Jean-Pierre und Thierry Usseglio geleitet wird. Viele der Grenache-Rebstöcke sind heute ca. 80 Jahre alt und ein unschätzbares Kapital für die Qualität der Usseglio-Weine.
