J. Livingstone-Learmonth: 4,5 / 6 Sterne (Leading St. Joseph 2022)
"1) (600-litre cask, Les Oliviers) **** dark red. Spice-floral, nice raw Syrah red fruits on nose. The palate bears a peony perfume, compact gras, a definite centre to it, some suave feel. It pursues a steady route. The tannins are firm but not aggressive. Some sun influence. “Les Oliviers is always more broad, large than the others”, J Gonon. 21 years
2) (600-litre, Les Rivoires, La Croix, Tournon) ****+? Dark red. Discreet, fine strawberry, red berry airs, bingo clarity. The palate is cool, well lined, nicely restrained, rather crisp, has smoke-chalk influences, a more granite inflexion, carries a good vibe, is natural. The shape of this is remarkable given the growing season conditions. “It’s dense, but fresh”, J Gonon – I agree. 23 years
3) (St Jean de Muzols, ex Raymond Trollat) ****(*) dark red; stylish nose, black cherry fruit, blue fruit, sparks of granite, cordite within, with crushed raspberry airs. The palate has a good line of spine – that renders it droit and gives it direction, while it’s enclosed by rocky-grainy tannins. It's notably structured, serves a max purpose for the blend on that basis. It holds very articulate red fruit, is a real terroir, STGT wine, great truth in it. “It always has less flesh, is more thin than Tournon, which is typical of St Jean,” J Gonon. 24 years 2044-46"

Zitat J. Livingstone-Learmonth: " An STGT (Soil to Glass Transfer) domaine par excellence, and fantastic value and consistency - these red Saint-Josephs are top notch Syrahs. The Vieilles Vignes red, occasionally produced in small quantities, is exceptional. The Gonon brothers, true countrymen and taught by their father, make delightful, delicious wines of genuine pedigree. There is a sensible transfer of fruit from mature vineyards to the cellar, where methods are calm and watchful. No new oak in sight. The white is a high-class example of Marsanne, laced with a little Roussanne from a top, south-facing vineyard, Les Oliviers. Both red and white can evolve well over 20 years in the good vintages."
