"Full yellow robe; quince paste, ripe peach, glazed fruits feature on the nose, which mixes the exotic with the classic Marsanne of orange-ginger. The palate is framed like a red wine, is compact, sealed, very firmly rich – reach for the knife and fork. It ends on lasting, sweet-toned depth, an aniseed-quince duo late on helping its freshness. It will take stock and come again with more evolution and fluidity from 2025-26, time that will allow the glycerol and unctuosity to fall back. It’s a bit like the Roussanne Vieilles Vignes of Château de Beaucastel from the early 1990s, though there’s only 20% Roussanne in it. It’s locked up for now, is a wine of high interest, can rise. “It’s not a wine for summer time,” Jean Gonon. 2042-44."

There is a sensible transfer of fruit from mature vineyards to the cellar, where methods are calm and watchful. No new oak in sight. The white is a high-class example of Marsanne, laced with a little Roussanne from a top, south-facing vineyard, Les Oliviers. Both red and white can evolve well over 20 years in the good vintages."
