Vincent Avril erzeugt mit dem "Clos des Papes" sicherlich einen der besten und berühmtesten Chateauneuf du Pape Weine (der damit naturgemäß zu den eher teureren Vergnügungen zählt, die die Region zu bieten hat). Er zeichnet aber auch verantwortlich für einen fantastischen "Alltags-Chateauneuf", der für vergleichsweise kleines Geld großartigen Genuss verspricht.
Tiefe Farbe. Das Bouquet öffnet vielschichtige Aromen von Waldbeeren, Kirschen, Kräutern und Gewürznelke. Am Gaumen keinesfalls südländisch marmeladig, sondern fein strukturiert, rund und weich. Bei aller Konzentration behält der Wein eine wunderbare Finesse und saftige Eleganz.

"Starts off earthy with chestnuts, then turns to fruit with nuttiness, such as walnuts. Dark fruits like blackberries and raspberries. Has purity, with a slightly austere texture and tension. Changes in the glass and turns almost smokey. A non-vintage red from the great Chateauneuf producer of Clos des Papes."
R. Parker: "This exquisitely run estate continues to turn out wines of great fragrance, richness as well as flavor authority and integrity. The yields are always among the lowest in the appellation. While they have 87 acres and can produce as much as 8,000 cases of Chateauneuf du Pape, the yields in 2003 were 23 hectoliters per hectare, in 2004, 22 hectoliters per hectare, and in 2005, 21 hectoliters per hectare. Their best value, and it’s one heck of a bistro wine, is the non-vintage concoction of Grenache, Syrah, Merlot, and Carignan actually cropped at an amazingly low 32 hectoliters per hectare."
